Preserving Oral History Before It's Lost

There are stories in this family that exist nowhere but in memory — a grandmother's account of a migration, a grandfather's recollection of how two branches of the family first came to be connected. These stories are not written down anywhere, and every year we risk losing them permanently. This post is a call to action: if you have an elder in the family who remembers the old stories, take the time to sit with them and record what they say, even informally on a phone. We plan to add an audio archive feature to Shajara Nama specifically for this purpose, so these voices are not lost to time.
